Is AI training a thing?

07th May 2026

It can feel like AI is suddenly everywhere, with businesses across all industries being told they need to use it. That said, so many people still don’t really know how to, which has created an expectancy around AI training.

So, is AI training a thing?

Yes, and it’s growing fast too. AI is no longer exclusive to developers or tech companies; it’s moved into the majority of workplaces and is therefore now seen as a required skill. Whether it’s an admin role or a marketing business, AI has crept into everything. In response, the government is aiming to train 10 million workers in AI skills by 2030.

Government push

According to Gov.uk, every adult in the UK can now access free AI training courses, as the government strives to make the UK a leader in AI adoption. The overall goal is to improve productivity and efficiency, which will then lead to economic growth. This does mean that AI isn’t simply being introduced in workplaces but rather rolled out at scale.

What does AI training mean?

Well, you won’t be learning to code or becoming a data specialist. The training aims to give people an understanding of how to use AI tools properly. Ultimately, leaving people with the skills to automate repetitive tasks, write better emails and save time on everyday jobs (to name a few!).

The programme aims to reach millions of SME workers, not just the big companies. So, this will include everyone, whether you’re a small business owner, a tradesperson or working in an office - this isn’t just a big corporate push.

Something to keep in mind

AI can offer a variety of benefits, and therefore, ensuring you have a deeper understanding of the tools is not a bad thing. It can help you save time on repetitive tasks and respond faster to customers. Not to mention, for small businesses, it gives them the chance to compete with larger companies, which may not have been possible previously.

Naturally, basic courses won’t be the solution to all your problems; it’s a good starting point. Knowing how to use tools properly will come with practice, too.

If you’ve got any AI-related training questions, we’d be more than happy to chat these through with you.
